My Learning Project – Clarinet Lesson #3

In this lesson, I share some of the things with which I have been struggling lately.  Like breathing.  And counting.  Basics ;)

Thank goodness I have several weeks until Jingle Bells season!

One Response to My Learning Project – Clarinet Lesson #3

Shannon good for you! One of my adult students had to cancel tonight and she is frustrated with many of the same things you mentioned. Watching your video was like having her here! Thanks!
Great basics in terms of posture and position :) You mentioned breathing… What happens if you breathe through the corners of your mouth (like silently saying the word "heat")? Faster, deeper breath than through nose or back through instrument… The "t" at the end of "heat" places your tongue on the reed for the start of the first note ("heee-toooo") You said it, with air/breathing the rest will improve too.
For the tricky sections where your fingers have to move AND you have to keep the rhythm going AND…, does it help if you say the rhythm (even to "t…t..t….") and practise the fingers without playing. One element at a time, gradual build?
Love the laughter in the background! Nice to have the support, huh?
